Keep your tapes in the 80′s where they belong
As a small business, when selecting your backup and disaster recovery solution keep tapes where they belong – in the 1980′s. The last time I “used” a tape was a Michael Jackson “Thriller” cassette in like 1989.
Tapes don’t have a place in your small business. For small solutions they are substandard and have a 100% chance of failure (not “if”, but “when”). There are so many other ways to provide for adequate backup and disaster recovery now and overall mass storage media is cheap considering how much capacity you get.
If your IT resource is proposing a tape solution or is OK with letting your business rely on tapes for disaster recovery then you should evaluate whether or not your business is OK with that technical resource.
